Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted to another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which can be found below.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, personal information has been removed from the manuscript's file properties.

Author Guidelines

The Journal of Critical Library and Information Studies welcomes submissions from senior and junior faculty, students, activists, and practitioners working in areas of research and practice at the intersection of critical theory and library and information studies.

Authors retain the copyright to material they publish in the JCLIS, but the Journal cannot re-publish material that has previously been published elsewhere. The journal also cannot accept manuscripts that have been simultaneously submitted to another outlet for possible publication.

We welcome:

  • Research Articles (no more than 7000 words, reviewed by two peer referees)
  • Literature Reviews (no more than 7000 words; reviewed by two peer referees)
  • Interviews (no more than 5000 words; reviewed by the issue editorial team)
  • Perspectives (no more than 5000 words; reviewed by one peer referee)
  • Book or Exhibition Reviews (no more than 1200 words; reviewed by the issue editorial team)

Citation Style

JCLIS uses the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition as the official citation style for manuscripts published by the journal. Footnotes and bibliographies should conform to the guidelines as described in the Manual.

Submission Process

Manuscripts are to be submitted through JCLIS' online submission system. This online submission process requires that manuscripts be submitted in separate stages in order to ensure the anonymity of the review process and to enable appropriate formatting.

The main text must be submitted as a stand-alone file (in Microsoft Word or RTF)) without a title page, abstract, page numbers, or other headers or footers. The title, abstract, and author information should be submitted through the submission platform [insert link here].

Abstracts (500 words or less) should be submitted in plain text and should not include information identifying the author(s) or their institutional affiliations. With the exception of book reviews, an abstract must accompany all manuscript submissions before they are reviewed for publication.

For questions about the submission process and guidelines, please contact jclis at litwinbooks dot com.

Perspectives

Perspective pieces are shorter-length essays, peer reviewed by one reviewer.
