What Can You Submit?
The JCDL welcomes articles, literature reviews, and reviews of digital collections. Articles should demonstrate original contributions to the field of digital librarianship. Literature reviews should supply an overview of current work in the field, or in relevant subfields. Digital collection reviews should focus on one, or a small number of, digital libraries and/or digital collections and offer a review grounded in the field's current literature. Except when advertised otherwise, we seek material that has not been previously published, and that are not forthcoming in another publication.
As a new journal, we're also open to alternative means of examining the field of digital librarianship; authors interested in pitching alternate publication formats are encouraged to contact the editors.
Guidelines for Submissions
Articles: 5,000 - 7,000 words
Interviews: 3,000 - 5,000 words
Literature Reviews: 3,000 - 5,000
Digital Collection Reviews: 2,500 - 5,000
Publication Model and Timelines
We publish work on an ongoing basis and assign them to either the Winter or Summer issue. For example, if you submit work in January, it will be published as soon as it's gone through the review process. If it is published between January and June, it will be counted as part of the Summer issue; if it is published between July and December it will be part of the Winter issue
It is our goal to:
Ensure work is published and shared in a timely fashion; and
Acknowledge that we're all tired and need deep grace in all our projects
This publishing model is based on the appreciation and respect we have for our authors and reviewers.
Citation Style
The JCDL uses Chicago Manual of Style, Notes and Bibliography.
